Indian Students Held in US for Visa Fraud

Most of the students from India and other countries wishes to land in the US soon after their Graduation hoping to get some job there and settle down finally. Since they cant secure a job/H1 visa directly, they try going there on Student visa by securing admission in some University there. And then try getting a job there in flow of time.

While thats the trend there, of late people started looking for some loopholes to make it even easier.

Homeland Security Investigations (A Department of Homeland Security Wing that overseen immigration)  has carried out a sting operation on a fradulent university named University of Northern New Jersey (UNNJ) and arrested 10 Indian students. Following this, approx 380 students to face deportation, including students from China and other countries.

The university had no instructors, no educators, no curriculum and no other education related activities but only to procure certification needed for legitimate student and work visas. Most students who chose this university were probably unaware that it was being run by federal agents.

The accused students are charged with visa fraud and making false statements, which carry a sentence of 5 yrs and H1B Visa fraud and harbouring aliens, each carrying 10 yrs jail term.

The cancellation of non-immigrant student visas of foreign nationals who benefited from the visa racket has already begun and serious offenders may even be arrested and deportation proceedings will be initiated against them.

The Indian Embassy in Washington is in talks with the US Government about the accused Indian students and sought fair treatment for them. Earlier in 2015, US Authorities deported hundreds of Indian students in San Francisco from the Airport itself.
