Ex-President APJ Abdul Kalam passes away after collapsing during lecture at IIM

India's 11th President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam passed away after collapsing during lecture at Indian Institute of Management, Shillong. He was 83.

Soon after collapsing, Abdul Kalam was taken to the Bethany Hospital where doctors said he had suffered from a massive cardiac arrest.

President Kalam was brought to the hospital at around 7 PM. "The former president was brought almost dead to our hospital. He is in a critical condition. We are trying to revive the patient," John Sailo Ryntathiang, director of Bethany Hospital, had told IANS.

"He was taken to ICU to try and revive him, which was futile" said hospital sources.

Abdul Kalam was the former President of India who was in office from 2002-2007.

Earlier during the day, Kalam had tweeted about his function at IIM Shillong.
