Koh-i-Noor Diamond and Legal Proceedings against the Queen ?



Heard of Koh-i-Noor diamond, rite ? Yes, the precious 105 carat stone and 100 million euros worth, said to have been mined in India around 800 yrs ago. Infact, its not just about 105 carat stone or 100 million euros worth but has a lot of history and culture attached to it. We all know that this precious stone was gifted to Queen Victoria during the British Raj.

Well whats the news now ? A group of Indian actors and businesssmen in the UK have initiated legal proceedings against Queen Elizabeth II demanding the return of the precious stone.

Koh-i-Noor means "mountain of light" was once the world's largest cut diamond and had been exchanged from one ruling dynasty to another in India. Duleep Singh, the last Sikh ruler, travelled to Britain in 1850 and handed the Koh-i-Noor to Queen Victoria. The gem is now set in a Queen's mother's crown and is being displayed to the public in the Tower of London.
