Actress turns 31

Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif turns 31 today. She was born on July 16 in Hongkong. Though born in Hongkong, she was brought up in Hawaii till she was 14 and then moved to England. She is a half British and half Indian. Her dad is Md Kaiff - a Brit Business man of Kashmiri descent. She has 6 sisters and one brother. Katrina was home-schooled by her mom Suzanne with the aid of correspondence courses.

Before entering films, she was into modelling. During one of the London fashion week shows, she was spotted by film maker Kaizad Gustad who offered a role in Boom.

It is said that she was first cast by Mahesh Bhatt in film Saaya, however they dropped her as she couldnt speak Hindi. Boom was her next fim (debut) in was released in 2003. Also said that Boom's producer Ayesha Shroff changed her second name from Turguotte to Kaif, as she felt that it wasnt easy to pronounce.


Kat has worked in 21 bollywood films so far, 2 telugu films and one malayalam film with malayalee superstar, Mammootty. Kat reportedly charged Rs. 75 Lakh for telugu movie Malliswari that was released in 2004. Its the highest amount paid to a female actor at that point of time in South India.

Katrina reportedly charges Rs 5cr for an endorsement. At the same time, she is very choosy about what she promotes. “It is important for me that the product I endorse should deliver on its promise,” she said. 

Kat has featured in top 10 of the Indian version of Forbes - Celebrity 100 list that was released in 2013 based on income and popularity of india's biggest entertainers - with estimated annual earning of 66 cr.

As per Google reports released in 2011 and 2013, she was the most searched celebrity (Indian) on the internet.

Kat has been in India for more than 10 yrs now, and its said that she is on work visa. Reportedly, she doesnt own any property in India, however she owns few in England. Currently she lives in a rented apartment in Bandra, Mumbai.
