Short Stories - Hermit and Villagers

Once there was a village that had just one well. All the villagers used to draw out water from that well for cooking and other regular purposes. Once a dog fell in the well and died. The water became unpalatable.

Worried villagers visited a hermit to seek his advise. The hermit after listening to them, asked them to draw out 100 buckets of water from the well and discard and then add a disinfectant solution in the remaining water in the well. The villagers followed as per what the hermit suggested them. But still not happy with the water.

Villagers visited the hermit for the second time and told him the situation. The hermit again asked them to repeat the same old advise. The villagers went back to follow the hermit's instructions. But they are still not happy.

The villagers now visited the hermit for the third time saying the water in the well is still unpalatable. The hermit now got surprised. He decided to visit the village and inspect the well and the water by himself. When he visited the place, he realized that the villagers followed his instructions but without removing the dog's carcass.

Moral of the Story :
