Sadhu and one of his accomplices were arrested by the UP Special Task Force team. During interrogation, Sadhu allegedly confessed to killing Mumbai based artist Hema Upadhyay and her Lawyer Harish Bhambhani. He revealed that there is involvment of another person by name Vidya Rajbhar and that they gagged Hema and Harish before killing them. Several ATM cards of Hema, her estranged husband Chintan and her lawyer have been recovered from Sadhu.

Sadhu is a metal fabrication artist by profession. And he is the last person with whom Hema had spoken to before she mysteriously disappeared on Friday evening.

Sadhu revealed that his boss Vidya Rajbhar had asked him to eliminate Hema and Harish. On Dec 11, Sadhu called up Hema and said that he has some evidence against her estranged husband. Hema then agreed to meet him. Preliminary inquiry revealed that they were killed inside a metal fabrication unit in Mumbai and atleast 5-6 people were involved in the crime. They then took the help of one auto-rickshaw driver to dispose off the body. Sadhu then left for Varanasi. On Dec 12, her body along with her lawyer's were found dumped in cardboard boxes in a drain.

On Saturday evening, a sweeper noticed two boxes in a drain next to a crematorium in the Dhanukar wadi area. He immediately alerted the Kandivali police and later the bodies have been identified as those of Hema and her lawyer Harish. One of the eyewitnesses in the case, Anmol told CNN-IBN that the bodies were completely wrapped. "Harish's face was covered with a cloth. His hands and legs were tied. Woman's body not covered and I noticed blood oozing out of her mouth," he said.

Hema's estranged husband Chintan was picked up on suspicion for interrogation by Mumbai Police. His call records will now be tracked.

In 2013, Hema had filed a complaint of harassment against Chintan alleging that some of his paintings in their Juhu home showed women in an obscene light and were drawn to humiliate her. Then, Harish had represented her case
